LICENSURE

Florida's licensing requirements to become a real estate agent:

To become a real estate agent in Florida, you must meet several requirements, including Real Estate Associate Requirements and Real Estate Broker Requirements, depending on your field. You must also be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma.

Real Estate Associate Requirements:

To become a real estate agent:

  • Successfully complete a Florida Real Estate Commission (FREC)- approved 63-hour pre-licensing course. The course remains valid for 2 years after completion for licensure purposes.
  • Submit an application, application fee, and fingerprints to the state.
  • Take and pass the state Real Estate Sales Associate Examination.
  • Activate license.

Real Estate Broker requirements:

To become a real estate broker:

  • Must have completed 24 months as an active real estate sales associate for 5 years before becoming a licensed broker or real estate sale associate broker before applying.
  • Successfully complete a Florida Real Estate Commission (FREC)- approved 72-hour pre-licensing course for brokers.
  • Submit an application, application fee, and fingerprints to the state.
  • Take and pass the state Real Estate Broker Examination with a grade of 75 or higher.
  • Activate license.

APPLY FOR A LICENSE

 

License Renewal

Post-license education must be completed on or before the expiration date of the license (before your first renewal).

  • Sales associates must complete 45 hours of post license education.
  • Brokers must complete 60 hours of post licensure education.

After your first renewal, your license may be renewed every two years by completing 14 hours of continuing education.
