KISSIMMEE, FL – April 2021 has been proclaimed Fair Housing Month by the Osceola County Board of Commissioners, the Kissimmee City Commission, and the St. Cloud City Council. The Osceola County Association of REALTORS® was recognized in the proclamation as Osceola County’s largest professional trade association committed to the mission and intent of Congress to provide fair and equal

housing opportunities for all.

“Thank you to our local governments for recognizing April as Fair Housing Month. REALTORS® share the common bond of making the dream of homeownership possible for people no matter who they are and no matter where they come from. That is no more evident than it is during Fair Housing Month, as we celebrate the opportunity for everyone to have a chance at that dream and to level the playing field to make that possible,” stated Donnie Martinez, President of the Board of Directors for the Osceola County Association of Realtors®.

The Fair Housing Act was enacted 53 years ago on April 11, 1968, and its purpose was to eliminate racial segregation and end housing discrimination in the United States. The law prohibits discrimination in housing based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation or gender identity and expression, familial status, national origin and disability, and commits recipients of federal funding to affirmatively further fair housing in their communities.

Every April, the Osceola County Association of REALTORS® commemorates the enactment of the Fair Housing Act with events and education resources for their members that raise awareness on housing discrimination and segregation.

The Osceola County Association of REALTORS® is the largest professional trade association in Osceola County providing programs, services, continuing education and advocacy for over 4,800 REALTORS in Central Florida.
